Description

Sturm Panzer - DX-06 Eclipse Ogre Luna & Ray

This is a set of the Eclipse Ogre Luna and Ray.

"The 21st century's new form of combat: Yo-Yo Fist. Since the Stealth Ogre incident in 2013, team Sturm Panzer was disqualified from the league, but has has been training and is back in combat. The date is 6/6/2015.

This time, they're up against last year's champions, Revol Bible. The first match will bring Gouki and the Eclipse Ogre to the arena. Kyoshiro and the Leo Sniper are up second, followed by Rayta and the Schneider. Gouki, who always leaves his opponents half dead, has no blind spots anyone can find, but his first opponent is the famous Shinya Kuragumo. Kuragumo's articles are what brought Rayta into the yo-yo world and inspired him to join Sturm Panzer... showing a deep connection between the opposing teams. But before the match, when Kuragumo offers a handshake, Gouki's face darkens. Will he be victorious, or will he fall to Kuragumo?

Next up is Kyoshiro versus Asuka Jio. Even before the opening games, The press corps was loudly proclaiming that the only one who could defeat the genius high schooler Asuka Jio was the other genius, Kyoshiro Aoi! Now it seems that this dream match has become a reality. Before such an opponent, Kyoshiro has found his fighting spirit waning, and has been training new strategies with Kasumi to improve his chances. But young Asuka seems to be only interested in his models... Everyone is excited for the conclusion of these matches!"

-From the maker

In fact, our own Shinya Kido is the model for the character of Shinya Kumagumo, that appears in books 4 and 5 of the Sturm Panzer series. This set comes with both books 4 and 5. The Eclipse Ogre - Luna comes with book 4, and the Eclipse Ogre - Ray, comes with book 5. This set is not B-grade, but is a discounted set of Eclipse Ogres, to make it easier for 3A players to get a set of high end yo-yos, or to collect the accompanying manga books.

Continuing the precedent set by the Schneider, this yo-yo is based on the Stealth Ogre. While at first glance you can clearly see the family resemblance, but the devil is in the details, and the Luna is a very different beast from its brethren. The real focus on this model's design is clearly maneuverability.

While the Stealth Ogre was designed to have a very distinct design, the Eclipse Ogre is meant to be well suited for a wider variety of players, bringing top performances to the masses. The shape of the Stealth Ogre's brass rim has been modified, the gap has been widened, and the body weight has been reduced slightly. Without muddying the taste of the original, the Eclipse Ogre has a feeling that any serious player is sure to enjoy.

The Eclipse Ogre makes an appearance in book 4 and 5 ( book 5 included with this yo-yo), and 3A style makes an appearance. For that reason, the Ray has a companion, the Luna (L and R). These yo-yos are well suited for 3A styles, particularly vertical tricks like velvet rolls. The only difference between the L and R models is the coloring and cap design; the specs are identical. You can get them as a set (L and R), which comes with both books 4 and 5.

The side caps are the same diameter as the Lateral caps (48mm), so you can switch those out, as well as adjust the gap with the two shims. By removing both .3mm metal shims, the yo-yo will have the same gap width as the Stealth Ogre.

*Bearings are non-brand 10-ball curved bearings, which have been treated with a single drop of string trick oil. To realize the full potential of your Eclipse Ogre, switch the bearing out for the Dif-e-Yo Konkave bearing (or similar part). You take responsibility for your own yo-yo maintenance and modification. Also, when using the shims, please use curved/concave bearings, or the string may drop between the bearing and yo-yo body. The shims are small and easy to lose, so be careful whenever taking your yo-yo apart.

*The cap diameter is about 48mm, and requires a special suction cup to remove (included). If you have any trouble removing the side caps, or attaching custom caps like the YoYoJam Lateral Caps, feel free to ask us for directions. Just remember, you're responsible for what you do to your own yo-yos!

From the maker:
The Eclipse Ogre is Sturm Panzer's most stable yo-yo to date, but collisions, crashes and drops can adversely affect that. The original rim weight design has been modified to make it more durable against collisions, and the body is a bimetal design that uses 7075 aluminum. Sturm Panzer stress tested the design by placing it on the concrete ground and dropping a hammer on it from 2 meters, and found no problems from those tests, but we cannot guarantee this will stand up against abuse. Each yo-yo is slightly different, and there are many factors that may affect how it plays.

*Don't forget to polish the brass rims regularly with the included polishing cloth, to preserve the golden shine! Please do not use a polishing cloth on any other parts, or you might rub off the anodized coating. Our weight specification below is based on a unit with the side caps removed.

*Lateral Cap sold separately.

Super stable and long spinning!

This is a perfect 3A set, but the yo-yo works well for 1A too if you like heavier yo-yos. I really like how customizable the weight is. Without caps it's about 66g, with caps 70g, and with YYJ lateral caps 72g. My current sleeper record is with this yo-yo--about 10.5 minutes, and I own a lot of high-end Japanese yo-yos.

I'd recommend getting the 3A set since the cost per yo-yo is so much cheaper, but they're worth the price individually as well.
