Always on the forefront of yo-yo development, YoYoFactory has released countless models that define the cutting edge. One of those legendary yo-yos was the Supernova, released as 2007 world champion Tyler Severance's signature model. This yo-yo couldn't be contained by America's borders, and quickly became a world standard as one of YoYoFactory's flagship models. The Space Cowboy picks up the Supernova as its base, and pushes it to the next level as a bimetal model.
In the world of yo-yo, the word "performance" has many meanings. How fast and long the yo-yo can spin, how well it fits the hand, how easily it can be controlled, and so on. The Space Cowboy doesn't look to improve upon just one of those aspects, it was developed to push all aspects of "performance" to a new plateau for players of all levels. The result is a high-end, top-class bimetal yo-yo that truly boasts superior performance.
Bimetal refers to the use of two different metals in the yo-yo's body; by making yo-yos out of metals with different qualities, a maker can improve upon the three aspects of speed, stability, and sleep time over a "monometal" yo-yo made of a single material. The body is made from a strong but less-dense 6061 aluminum alloy, and the rim is made from heavier stainless steel. This pushes more weight into the wings of the yo-yo, so even at an average weight of 66 grams, the Space Cowboy spins surprisingly long and vigorously.
An even more surprising feature is that for all its power, the Space Cowboy has a sense of control and maneuverability that reminds us of the Supernova. The increase in speed alone would be a defining factor of the Space Cowboy, but with its ease of control, it'll easily play in the hands of just about any yo-yo enthusiast. YoYoFactory really succeeded in developing a high-performance bimetal yo-yo for the masses.
Refusing to skimp on the details, YoYoFactory outfitted this yo-yo with a Center Trac bearing and Pro Pads (natural color) for the response system. The natural color pads are especially popular amongst Team YoYoFactory, and were used by Gentry Stein to win the 2014 World Championship.
YoYoFactory's first worldwide release of a bimetal yo-yo has been a long time in the making, and now we see that it was worth the wait. It's not too much to call it a true masterpiece, and we're sure you're itching to get your hands on one!
