This "Japan Edition" Shutter was made in collaboration with SUS YOYOMECHANICS.

Since his victories in 2014 and 2019 as the 1A World Champion, Gentry Stein's signature Shutter has seen a few intriguing iterations, but none are as exciting as this new collaboration with SUS YOYOMECHANICS. JDS, short for Japan Design Studio is responsible fro this Japan edition, which looks nearly identical to the original but offers a completely different level of sleep and performance.

The characteristic of the original Shutter was its hardness and straightforward ease of control, and that is inherited by the new Shutter JDS with the goal of drawing out the most out of each throw for ultra long combos. Because of this, it feels lighter and more responsive than the specs would lead you to believe.

The low-key laser engraving leaves the concave side face bare, for the benefit of fingerspin techniques. A perfect weapon for testing out all sorts of powerful techniques!

Although we were stepping back from the bimetal Shutter to a monometal version, the Shutter JDS started with the question of just how far can we push the monometal design?

The result is indeed a Shutter, with the same 56mm diameter and 44mm width as the first one that came out in 2013, but just as the weight of various Shutters has swung between 64 and 68 grams, this new one packs its own surprises. Our contribution is to bring high power to a lightweight body, and push the limits of the original vision.

We didn't deviate too much from the original profile, which is already very good at maintaining minimum sleep loss. We also didn't want to change the iconic Shutter side face, leaving very little that we could change without affecting the character of the yo-yo.

We strove to give the classic presence of the Shutter, with just a little shape up to a bit beefier rim, weighing in at 65 grams. We designed it to be both lightweight and powerful. Find new ways to enjoy the legendary classic.
