All yo-yos have passed the manufacturer's quality inspection. Quality standards vary by manufacturer. Basically, products that can be used normally are within product specifications.
Examples of possible initial defects
if the following symptoms occur immediately after opening, they may be initial defects:
(Bind models only) The bearing barely rotates even when flicked with a finger.
Even after dampening vibrations with a finger during play, the yo-yo vibrates so much that its shape appears distorted.
Parts that should be installed (bearings, pads) are not installed.
Examples that do not constitute initial defects
Package damage
Color differences from expectations
Bearing noise or bind model return issues that occur after even a few plays
Yo-yos that arrived properly assembled but cannot be reassembled after disassembly
Scratches on the inside of the bearing area, paint chips
Color variations on the yo-yo that are not noticeable from a distance
Paint chips that are not noticeable from a distance
Scratches on the yo-yo that are not noticeable from a distance and barely detectable by touch
Minor rust on bearing surfaces of models that come pre-strung in the package (minor external rust has almost no impact on performance)
This New edition of the Edge sports a polycarbonate body and a metal rim!
This is the newest signature model for 2018 1A World Champion, Evan Nagao. His original signature throw, the Edge has been split into many derivations, and the Poly Edge is the latest iteration!
As the name implies, the body is made from polycarbonate plastic, with the addition of a stainless rim. The width has been slimmed down by 1.5mm from the original design, so that although there's a big difference in material and design from the full metal Edge, the Poly Edge still has that characteristic playfeel that feels heavy at first throw, but somehow manages to play light on the string. The effect is similar to a bimetal design.
The "Poly" in the name not only refers to the body materials, but also to Polynesia, the massive archipelago that includes Evan's home state of Hawaii. The name is a subtle nod in deference to the land where he was born and raised. As such, the artwork decorating the side faces are in the style of Polynesian tribal motifs.
The Poly edge doesn't lose any ground to the metal-bodied yo-yos that are popular today, with stability and a great playfeel; we'd like you metal-heads to give the Poly Edge a throw, if you aren't too afraid you might love it!
Official Description When I first started yoyoing, the yoyos I played with were all made of plastic, so while designing “Poly Edge,†I wanted to recreate that nostalgic and fun feeling that I got from my classic plastic yo-yos I grew up with.
……
After practicing with “The Edge†yo-yo everyday for 6 months straight to win the US National Yo-yo Contest, and then for another 2 months with “Edge Beyond†to win the World Yo-yo Contest, I wanted something new. The metaphor I like to use is that It’s like I was eating sushi everyday. I love sushi, but if you ate the same sushi for 6 months straight, you wouldn’t enjoy it as much by the end. Even if you were to eat tuna sushi for 6 months, and change to salmon sushi for another 2 months, it’s not a huge change, and you will eventually crave something different.
I had a strong desire to design something new and fun, but not at the sacrifice of precision and playability. After testing many designs, I decided the only way to achieve all these elements at once was to machine a yoyo out of PolyCarbonate for a smooth throw, and add stabilizing steel weight rings for long spin.
When the final prototype for this yoyo came in, I did my first combo with it, and it gave me that warm nostalgic feel of being a kid again. I knew I hit the mark.
To be honest, I initially created this yoyo for my own enjoyment, but I realized how selfish it would be for me to not share such a fun throw, so it is with this excitement that I present to you “Poly Edge!â€
……
P.S. If you’re wondering about the art or the name of this yoyo, “Poly†stands for “PolyCarbonate,†but it can also stand for “Polynesian,†which is the style that the art is done in. Growing up in Hawaii, the Polynesian culture, just like yoyoing has always been a prominent part of my childhood. For this reason, the art, which was created by my good friend, Dylan Flemming, was created as a representation of my childhood and to pay respects to the incredible and beautiful Polynesian Culture!
