Turning Point x Shingo Terada - Bacchus
The flat face and simple looks are sure to turn some heads! Something this unique has to be the new signature model of 2001 X-division world champion and REWIND'S Shibuya store manager, Shingo "Terry" Terada.
The Bacchus represents the "final form" of Terry's signature Douska series. His goal was to create the strongest counterweight design he could. The resulting Bacchus presents a highly refined shape, stability, and premium playfeel that appeases the master and cofounder of the 5A style.
Not just merely designed to "spin well," the Bacchus is meant to be a powerful counterweight throw, towering above the other full metal string trick yo-yos in this play style.
The flat side faces give it a simple, clean look that oozes coolness, provides a nice surface to display the stylish logos and also serves to cover the hollow space created by the side profile. This gives the Bacchus a much more solid and heavy look than how it actually feels, but also serves to deaden the sound when struck by the counterweight. Especially if you're trying not to be too noisy with your practice, or worried about being asked to stop because you're causing an audible distraction, you can relax and head to the library and keep on playing! Just kidding, kind of.
The body is a very comfortable round shape that fits well into the hand; the fine details of the inner profile and bump area are inherited from the Douska series, keeping sleep loss to a minimum.
The slightly small (52mm) body is designed with counterweight play in mind, making it very easy to grip along with a dice. In part thanks to Turning Point's owner's know-how and experience, and partly thanks to the hollow-body construction, the Bacchus has a very intriguing floaty feeling that still has a deep presence during play thanks to the 66.8 gram body; a lovely refined balance.
Because it's such an easy size to pocket and carry around, we don't just recommend Bacchus for counterweight play, but as a great all-around string trick yo-yo. It really makes for a great casual model to carry around for everyday play.
From the beginning of development, the main focus was to see how far the weight distribution of hollow-bodied designs could be pushed. The original prototypes showed just how difficult that concept would be to produce. A full year later, after numerous prototypes, they finally were able to bring Terry's vision to fruition. The "ultimate counterweight yo-yo" had been born. As beautiful to play as it is to behold, the Bacchus will have you drunk on possibilities.
