Description
44CLASH - 44CLASH
This special bimetal yo-yo was made for the 2018 44CLASH yo-yo contest, held in Japan.
The 44CLASH yo-yo is a commemorative model, made to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the the event since it was first held in 2008. To design, machine, test, anodize, engrave, package and market a yo-yo, it takes a whole lot of cooperation and coordination among a big group of people. It can take months, or even years, to see a yo-yo design come into full production.
The 44CLASH yo-yo is the result of an incredible collaboration. As the main production crew, the Japanese maker Mowl took up the mantle. The artwork was done by Hibari, a Japanese designer whose work has graced many yo-yos to date. The package design and manufacture was handled by the AA YOYOCLUB. The yo-yo's specs and settings were carefully put together by Yo-Yo Studio Llama, the team responsible for a whole load of unique and creative designs. Now, a full ten years after the original 44CLASH event was held, we now have a yo-yo worthy of carrying the name and history of 44CLASH into the future.
Countless prototypes were run through during production, and many of them came through REWIND staff's hands as we helped in testing them out. Several iterations were tested, and you wouldn't be crazy to think they the different prototypes were for completely different yo-yos! The final release was based on a popular prototype that was considered the most powerful option. Using a stepped H-profile shape, it has a great balanced playfeel that feels steady but provides plenty of power. The steps are designed to give a great fit, so the catch feeling is also super smooth and comfortable. The looks are unusual, but the result is a blast to play with.
Because they squeezed every last second of development time, full production didn't start until the last minutes before the contest began; and we were worried we'd miss the event for the yo-yo's release! But the team pulled together and brought the 44CLASH to its namesake event just in time to blow everyone's mind!
